Shrivardhan is an ancient place of historical importance and is mentioned as being visited by Arjuna Pandav in his pilgrimage. It is well known place for traders in the past. In sixteenth and seventeenth centuries under Ahmednagar and afterwards under Bijapur, Shrivardhan was a port of consequence. Shrivardhan is one of the oldest towns in Maharashtra. It is a town of Peshwas. The Bhats of Shrivardhan – later popularly known as Peshwas – witnessed the rise and fall of Marathas after Shivaji’s period.

Places of Tourist Attraction:
Shrivardhan Temple & Beach: The temple in the town – Shri Laxminarayan Temple – is the main temple of Peshwas. The idol in the temple is quite old and said to be of Hoysala Architecture style. The other temples in the town are of Kusumdevi, Somjai, Bhairavnath and Jivaneshwar.
Kondivali Beach: Kondivali or Kondivli beach is located around 5 km from Shrivardhan a beautiful white sand beach. One can indulge in water sports at this beach.
Ganesh Gully: Ganesh gully as the name suggest is a culvert which is very narrow of about 3 feet wide in between two hard Rocky Mountains. It is believed that at the end of the culvert, there is a holy niche, a place where Lord Ganesh Idol is placed. The niche is about 30 feet under water and it is assumed that during the tidal periods one can observe the Ganesh idol placed perfectly at the niche. Many tourists visit this place to have a glimpse of the Ganesh Idol. The place Ganesh gully itself is in the backdrop of natural beauty and calm winds.
Harihareshwar Lord Shiva temple: Harihareshwar is a town in Raigad district, in Maharashtra, India. It is surrounded by four hills named Harihareshwar, Harshinachal, Bramhadri and Pushpadri. The river Savitri enters the Arabian Sea from the town of Harihareshwar. Towards the north of the town is the temple of Lord Harihareshwar, said to have been blessed by Lord Shiva. Hence Harihareshwar is often referred to as Dev-ghar or “house of God”. Besides a major pilgrimage center, Harihareshwar is a popular beach resort with two beaches, one to the north and the other to the south of the temple. MTDC has a resort on the south beach. Harihareshwar, along with Shrivardhan and Diveagar Beach forms a popular weekend beach destination from Pune (190 km) and Mumbai (210 km).
Harihareshwar Temple complex has two adjacent temples. The smaller Kalbhairav temple is expected to be visited first, before entering the main Harihareshwar temple housing an ancient Shiva Linga. A pradakshina route goes around the temple, along the sea shore. It is not advisable to go on this route during high tide.
